Simply Scored ~ You are Pure Bliss

I had my Stampin' Up! Score Pal for more than 2 weeks before I dared to try it. I'm like that... something new that looks potentially complicated, I need to be cautious; let my courage build through slow-cooking. I've seen these medallions shared all over SU-land and finally, I got the courage. This is a 1.5" x 12" strip of Twitterpated DSP (my new favorite paper). I scored every 1/4" inch (or ever 3rd line) - there is a ruler on the edges of this grooved tool. Guess what's going to become of my scrap strips now?

This Box was made using a simple pattern we'll be learning at my 1st Score Pal workshop. I'll post the recipes and more samples after it happens.

These stationery box fits standard A4 note cards.
Paisley Petals designer series paper makes me think about my mother. For one of my "Anything But A Card" workshops, we'll create a set of note cards and use the Simply Scored to make a matching container - I don't want to commit to which one, because I have a-n-o-t-h-e-r to show you!

How to I Turn this?

Added butterfly

My mother needed all-occasion and a few sympathy cards, so I whipped these up for her.

This Stampin' Up! designer series paper, Paisley Petals, could have been designed for my mother! Those of you who know her, know I'm right. :) The butterfly is from the Nature's Walk set. With Sympathy is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set. Thinking of You is from a retired hostess set. Decorative Label punch in Vanilla and Bravo Burgundy.

I owe her a bunch more, but it seems to take me forever to design and get going. :)

FVJC-ES Social Action Commitee Cards

Something very wonderful happened to my life recently, at a time when when I needed a lift (my recovery from the neck injury is taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r).... and arrived in the form of the chair of my synagogue's Social Action committee, Alice Seidenberg. :) During the last 3 weeks I've designed a bunch of different cards (I'll share by category to keep each post shorter), used MyDigitalStudio to make donation announcement/acknowledgement sheets to include in cards, met 2 wonderful ladies (Alice and SAC member Sue Schloss) and been inspired to create more cards than I have in a long time! I'm proud to share that the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation's Social action Committee took in $700 in donations that day! And the synagogue has asked us to continue this program. :)

I was asked to get pictures up for FVJC-ES to share on their website... and I've been busy, so I've loaded them up without too much description. . My cards will be discounted for anyone making a donation (charity of your choice), through the Social Action Committee. If you'd like more information about this, about volunteering your time to do social service, or are interested in joining a card-making workshop (no talent required - it's easy and fun ~ and I'd love to teach you), leave me a comment or call the Temple. My wonderful, creative 11 year-old-son, Jake, decided to investigate my peculiar heat gun behavior a few nighs ago... and when he got close he experienced his 1st card making "WOW" when the embossingpowder began to melt then lift into that incredible raised silver image. I was thrilled that he asked to try & let him do his own thing. Jake did something I hadn't thought to do in years...

He usedVersaMark and CLEAR embossingpowder! VersaMark is a clear ink that makes images a shade darker than the card stock they're stamped on. I create alot of my background paper that way; see the above Shalom (star) above? The dreidels are made stamping into VersaMark instead of a regular ink pad. I love the subtle effect, and quickly threw together a few spin-offs of my own.

The hardest part of choosing a card for an occasion is tostop myself from designing and playing with more designs… because I know I will“recognize IT” when it becomes.

I liked several of the designs I came up during my 2-week creative journey to design THE card I know will arrive... (I'll share those too), but knew THEY hadn't arrived yet, but would. The night before my 11-year-old son discovered the wonders of embossing and spent 30 minutes being creative on his own... I need to give Jake credit for inspiring the 2 designs that I've finally happily decided to use as our family holiday cards. I have to make the Christmas greeting more prominent (my husband he couldn't see it) & will add that revised one later; I do like it the way it is though... You have no idea how happy& relived I’m to be able to start mass production. :P NOTE: Don't look if you're a relative or personal friend who wants to be surprised. :)

RECIPE:

Stamp Sets: Menorah is part of a retired Stampin' Up set - can't find the name (TBA).

The Dreidel and "Happy Hanukkah" are from an old rubber/foam set I bought for my kids.

Card Stock: SU's Note Cards & Envelopes ($5.95/20 cards/envelopes), Pacific Coast, Bashful Blue, Blueberry Crisp designer series paper (retired - look on Clearance Rack).

Inks: SU's VersaMark & Night of Navy

TOOLS: SU's Silver Embossing Powder, Scallop Trim Corner Punch, 1-inch circle punch, Paper cutter, Pop-up adhesives and runner adhesive tape.

Hanukkah Apron Card/Scrapbook Candy

My Aunt and Uncle are known for their potato pancake making talents (they are made with so much love & oil ~ amazing)... I was fiddling around with this apron die (there are oven mitts too!!!) as an idea for a "thank you" note for them. Unfortunately they might not be here this year (still waiting for them to return my call).
I love the way this came out though ~ I plan to create "latkes" with my retired SU "cookie" roller stamp, and use the sentiment "I Love You a Latke" that I've seen somewhere but don't remember where. This is a Sizzix Apron die that I use with my Stampin' Up! Big Shot machine. I plan to use lots of different fabric looking designer series papers ~ I may even cut REAL fabric!

Champagne Shimmer Paint makes me Giddy like the real stuff!

Shimmer Paint to the edges of a punched out label I decided to shimmer-up the ends of one of my Daisy's... and WOW ~ the instant gratification was enormous! See p. 203 The Shimmer Paint comes in Champagne Mist, Frost White & Platinum and only $5.95 ~ I'm definitely going to get the 2 I'm missing! It's so easy to apply; simply shake the bottle and then dip your Sponge Dauber into the lid and you are ready to use! This stuff will not run out any time soon! Want to know a secret? I'm suddenly very happy that the selection of Greeting cards for Jewish-themed Celebrations & Holidays is as limited as it is. I never thought I'd feel that way ~ Isn't that silly & selfish? LOL. My daughter, Ali is at that Bat Mitzvah age (her's in May 2012); she seems to go to a few every 6-8 weeks. Amanda was the 1st friend to receive one of my cards. I'm also close to her and her mother; the girls have been close since pre-school. I went all-out on that card; search "Bat Mitzvah" to see the gorgeous brunette in her fancy Bat Mitzvah party dress. I didn't expect to gifts in return, however not only did that sweet girl thank me through 3-4 texts to my daughter, "Tell your Mom I LOVED the card she made me"... the best surprise of all was that somehow this attention awakened my daughter's appreciation for them. Poor thing... she was "over crafted" as a child ~ I didn't think that was possible.
My favorite part of making cards my kids' friends is chatting with them about their friend before I start. The invitation for today's celebration was an elegant cream-colored card; no hints of the Bat Mitzvah girl's personality. When asked what kind of things her friend liked, Ali replied, "She likes "Pretty things". I showed her my ever-growing pile of Daisys ~ Ali chose the above flower & I was raring to go!

Will you LOOK at the vibrant colors here! NOTHING was added to this fruit ~ Nada. No sugar, no preservatives. What you see is fresh, sliced dehydrated fruit handmade by my 11 year old son and me! And no, I do NOT sell these - though I would if I could. :)

I can not tell you how happy my new NESCO FD-80 Snackmaster® Square Dehydrator & Jerky Maker !!! For the kids it was love-at-1st-sight, but for my husband it was the easy-to-make turkey jerky!

Turkey Jerky w/Cranberries

The jerky is waaaaay better than the store bought! It's fresh and not brittle. We added cranberries to ours and look forward to adding other dried fruits to our next batch. We've used the "curing" and spice mixes that came with the unit (you mix with ground meat or coat thin slices of raw meat and let marinate 12-24 hours in the refrigerator). colors DRIED Fruits, roll-ups and homemade turkey jerky we made withour new FOOD DEHYDRATOR! :) There are so many places to find recipes though, I think we'll keep this baby busy all year.

I had a Ronco dehydrator in the 80s that kept my best friend Lisa & I happily snacking on healthy dried cinnamon-apple slices all fall. Back then, the heating element was on the bottom (where everything dripped onto it), and it was not very powerful. If that was your last experience with one, you'll LOVE the new one with the motor on the top and super powerful ~ instead of waiting 12-24 hours, our snacks were ready to enjoy in 4-6. :)

I thank all of you for staying with me even though I haven't been able to share too much creativity during the last two months. I'm still working on recovering from this whiplash injury (which has rendered my hands/arms weak & useless for the most part). I *am* slowly doing better ~ the 1st of 3 epidurals will be received tomorrow... I hope to be back full swing in the next 4-8 weeks! Please keep checking on me ~ I have been actively inspiring myself by blog hopping, and have started several projects and cards, I simply need to get finish a few to share with you!

My Digital Studio ~ Glamified Cow Picture Note Card

THIS IS something I created quickly ~ using My Digital Studio! My Mother-in-Law asked me to create some country note cards for a friend who loves cows. I looked through the SU new Idea Book & Catalog for a COW image I could use, and then spent many days searching online. When I came across this Bessy, my role became clear... I needed to give this gal some fashion (MIL has a great sense of humor, so a funny twist was definitely ok). I love how this turned out. I used Green Artichoke pattered designer patterned paper for the background. I continued the artichoke green colors for the 2 scallop square "punched shapes" for the top matting, the ribbon, scallop trim boarder trim punch and the bow too. The earrings were created using 6 adhesive backed Basic Rhinestones . I hope you won't mind, I plan to start sharing "more" about myself.. to include other passions: cooking, creating "Magical Moments (c)" for my family & our fun. Letting you get to know my fur-baby Chloe, my love of holidays (decorating, cooking, family). I also want to include some of the challenges I face. Like so many, I also suffer with "invisible" diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) which is also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), and Fibromyalgia. I try very hard to play Pollyanna's "Glad Game" and find the thing to be happy about when things don't go as planned. So maybe by sharing how I push-through things or struggles, maybe I can help you. Maybe there'll be days you can share an insight that helps me? :)

I honestly feel that flexing your creative muscles is really good for the soul/spirit. Somehow all of these things belong on my blog. You can still count on mostly crafting fun here ~ I hope you'll like the changes.

It's true, there are many days where I set out to do one thing, yet become enthralled by (distracted) another, and move from one thing to another, to another. I'm not complaining. I get alot of random things completed, or is "started" a better way to describe my days? :)

Chloe the Deer Hunter

Today for instance, I was sitting on my couch in the family room (where a sliding door to the fenced-in backyard resides) when Chloe the Hunter decided she MUST go protect the home front! Out she dashed, always ending with 3-4 hops, towards the fence and wagging her tail. Curiosity got the best of me so out I went. I was rewarded by seeing a few deer in the distance ~ mind you I had to look carefully and aim my search towards where Chloe was watching. My garden happens to be in that location. I spotted a handful of bright red cherry tomatoes that I picked. Walking in holding those cherry tomatoes made me think about how yummy they would be in a scoop of cottage cheese with chives that I knew was sitting in my fridge. While getting my bowl, I spotted the last homemade whole wheat English Muffin on my kitchen counter and new I had to have it too. Into the toaster it went. I'm not going to get into describing how seeing the group of beautiful ripe full-sized tomatoes helped me (step by step) to dream up an elaborate BLT dinner plan. LOL. I'm sure you can imagine the way it went.

Are these not the CUTEST???? Poor use of the English language, I know... these are so "stinkin' cute" (SU term), there isn't a better way to express my feelings! Designing a "thank you" end-of-year card for my daughter's teacher was challenging. There were no male teacher images to be had. Then out-of-the-blue I decided to MAKE one! Tada!

Stampin' Up!'s All In the Family stamp set and both "Accessories" sets are among my most used sets. I am extremely unhappy the two accessory sets are retiring... I'm hoping to find NEW accessories in the 2011-12 catalog! I use the accessories with my Totally Tess & animal images too. The "Defining Your Life" set is also retiring. It's so sad to see these old friends go...

Classroom Card Service Project

Do you see the especially cute boy at the top right picture, holding his card in front of his mouth, looking especially happy? That's my kid, Jake. This is a really super bunch of kids; I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to do a mini workshop with them last week. As part of "caring" the kids in this grade regularly wrote to hospice residents at local retirement home ~ the residents wrote back too. Because of an unexpected ankle casting & all of the exams and need for x-rays prior, my materials prep time was depleted.

Do you remember the flowers from the Seniors Easter Basket decorating workshop? I had so many left over flower die cuts, and the kids and I were distracted by thoughts of SUMMER ~ Again I must thank G-d, he put this idea in my head just as I started to worry about prepping supplies for 25 kids! G-d and Stampin' Up!'s Big Shot machine to the rescue! Here's what I came out with for a sample:

Love-Hate Relationship with the last 4 weeks of School

There is so much to be happy & excited about starting May, with the momentum building & growing... So does the amount of "stuff" on my daily To Do List. I'd be lost with out the Android "To Do List" and calendar with reminders I've become completed reliant on! This year I had 4-5 things in particular that made the past 6 weeks especially happy for me... (1.) with the warmer weather came my dear new neighbor Mushk. She's become my walking buddy and (2) vegetable "Garden" confidant. The two of us have had so much fun walking & discussing our developing plantings & the day-to-day! I am sooo happy G-d put her in my neighborhood (thank you).

(3) It now gets dark AFTER 8:40pm! I'm positively effected by the sun and the (4) warmer temperatures. I appreciate each Spring day (my favorite season) & find myself thinking/hearing that old John Denver song in my mind quite a few times. You know (sing with me), "Sunshine... on my shoulders, makes me happy...," ).

Handmade Card from Class to Teacher

(5) Parties & Events galore ~ now this is also part of the love/hate... you see, being the mom of 2 elementary school-aged children (one going to Jr. High in the fall), a "Room Parent" & a girl scout leader, these parties/activities (that I LOVE) mean extra thinking & physical work for me. I'm NOT complaining, it just gets rough to figure when to squeeze the errands in and this year (::: blushing :::) I had to run home to retrieve the teacher's card with gift cards left on my kitchen counter.... my cfs/ME & fibro brain just struggles in overload.

I offered to make the card from the class because I truly adore this teacher (and she is also a SU greeting card maker with another demo), and gave the kids a special assignment. More to come on this....

My new Big Shot embossing folder (Tulip Frame) and die (Daisy) sure came in handy today! I made this card very quickly, without a dry run ~ in about 15 minutes & it was the 1st time I used these products. I can't wait to create a bouquet of flowers!

I love this retired Gaming set by SU and the Designer Series Paper too ~ I think it was a mistake to retire it. I'm not completely pleased with how this turned out... if I had more time I know I could have perfected it. Oh well... next gaming event! :)

To make Poker Chips, I used the circle stamp from a current frame set (I'll have to get the set name later ~ I'm in a waiting room at the moment). I also used a retired Jewish set that I love (whose name momentarily escapes me). The colors are all current: Real Red, So Saffron & Basic Black. I actually added a cut out Star of David to the center of the black "chip." I do like the way it turned out and think the Bar Mitzvah Boy will love that it matches the theme of his party.

I've spent countless hours (and am not yet done) making these paper punch bunnies. And even though my goal is to assemble at least 70 to use as tray favors for our local Meals-on-Wheels recipients, and that I haven't been able to resist giving bunny bookmarks to various kid-friendly places (the children's librarian, our pediatrician's sign-in clip board, and today various nurses at the children's hospital..) meaning that my approach to goal is slowed... I still find these things incredibly cute!
I'm bloggong by cell so not sure I can turn this photo... I promise to fix it in a bit when I'm able to get my laptop on.

It's true, I was browsing blogs and found a beautiful card using Stampin' Up!'s Fifth Avenue Floral set and neutral colors. I cased it here, added a polka dot ribbon (not Strampin' Up!), SU's You're a Gem set, and some Basic Rhinestone Jewels.

The colors are Crumb Cake (one of my favorites) and Basic Black. The Modern Label punch is also a favorite of mine. If you look close, try double-clicking on my image, you'll notice that there is an extra layer, with overlapping images that I found so elegant on the original. Here's the original:

A Little Sale-a-Bration BLISS

This 2011 Sale-a-Bration Bliss stamp set is one of my favorite sets (I sure hope it makes its way into the new Idea Book & catalog). I used retired card stock colors that purchased to make note cards for my mother-in-law (her favorite shade). I created this design in MY DIGITAL STUDIO about 2 months ago (what an easy way to conserve supplies while still in the design phase). This isn't an exact replica but I was happy with how it turned outand she loved it. (Yay). There are tiny SU jewel gems running up the middle that are difficult to see.

The Wonderful Seniors from West Hartford Fellowship

Three in one day, I know! I'm on a roll. I just realized I forgot to share this wonderful picture of the ladies from the West Hartford Fellowship Housing group I do monthly workshops with. This is from their Valentine's class. Look what an amazing job they did!

I'll be with this fun bunch at the end of the month to help them create beautiful Easter Baskets (yes, this nice Jewish girl is going to make Easter Baskets ~ wish me luck! I think they'll like what I'm planning) :)

I have so much to share and a few designs I'm rather proud of too. I attended Stampin' Up!'s Hartford Regional Convention on March 11th two weeks ago, and I am extremely inspired by the talent I was exposed to! Here's the SWAP I designed for the event.

LOVE my Filled with Love set

Valentine's Days is truly one of the most enjoyable holidays to craft for, don't you think? Stampin' Up!'s Filled with Love set is so versatile to use; I found the ideas and combinations just flowing (not to mention the gorgious inspiration I receive from looking at shared images from other Stampin' Up! demonstrators in the Stampin' Connections ~ Stampin' Up!'s demonstrator "back room/message board")! The pink one at the top left was cased and changed only slightly from one of those demonstrators; as was the bottom left card. I can't remember if I copied the treat bag from a Stampin' Up! flyer/catalog or if that was also found in the Stampin' Connection). The one below was changed enough that I do feel creatively responsible enough to call it my own. Underneath that lifesaver is another special design. Love love how it turned out. I even gave one of these to my father as a birthday card.

You'll find more pictures of these in prior posts. I must admit, these cards are my proudest accomplishments this week. So amazing to me that such sweetness can be created by me. :) The sparkling red paper really adds "pop".

I wish I knew how to get these closer together for you.... I'm still learning.

Have I Shared my NEW Infatuation with Textured Impressions Embossing Folders?

You know I love my Stampin' Up! Big Shot die cutting machine, but I have just recently discovered the MAGIC created by using Textured Impressions Embossing Folders!

I love this card for so many reasons ~ I am very thankful to the SU demonstrator who shared this design with us (my favorite perk about being a demonstrator). I was intrigued by the faux embossed look of the punched out hearts on the left side of this card (don't you?). My favorite part of making this card is how quickly the textured Inpressions Embossing folder turns a punched out paper heart into a magical piece ~ the focus! I think the 3 tiny pearls give this card a lot of class too. Simple elegance, and easy to make. Try it.

My spin on the original included changing the punch, the textured Impressive Folder, and sentiment too.

Isn't this cute? Love how this treat bag turned out. I cased the topper from one of the talented Stampin' Up! demo's in Stampin' Connection (demonstrator share message board). I used the heart stamp from the Filled With Love set, and adderd a rhinestone for bling; attached to a Dove chocolate with mini glue dots. I used my paper shredding scissors (purchased for my crafting needs) on some scrap paper and crinkled it up. Threw in a few kisses ~ cute, no?

I am still proud of this project and how much fun my girls had making them (and of the party which included a paper craft and decorating bags to hold their cookies)!

(3.) This pillow box is the perfect size for mini candy bars or to fill with candy corns or M&Ms! It's 3 inches long at the shortest part, and 3/4th of an inch thick. Pillow Box die pg. 206, #113466, $19.95. Batty for You stamp set (see above), & 1-1/4" circle pg.202 #119861, $15.95.

(4.) Swizzle Stick or Lollipop Toppers! These are fun & quick to make & EASY enough for kids!. I use Stampin' markers to achieve this multiple-colored image. They look adorable in one color too; which is easier for young children. I used the Batty for You set (see #2 for details). Use 1-1/4" circle punch to cut image out. 1-3/8" circle punch cut black or gray (or other color). Use a mini glue dot (pg. 197 #103683 $4.95/300 count), Snail adhesive (pg. 197 #104332, or a glue stick to attach the pieces. Cut 2 scalloped circles using the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle punch (pg. 200 #119854, $16.95). For a "lacy" look, I used a Handheld 1/16" Punch (pg. 202 #101227 $8.95) on some, and used a white uni-ball Gel Pen (pg. 195, #105021, $3.95) to dot the scallops on others. Punch out a 2nd scallop circle & attach with the stick between them.

(5.) Cupcake toppers! Stamp the image you want & cut out using either of the TAG Punches (pg. 202: Large Tag #119876, $15.95, Extra-Large Tag #119866, $16.95). Punch your largest Tag a second time. Decorate then glue or tape the tags back to back with a toothpick in the center. Whoa-la! Instant cake toppers in any theme you desire!

(6.) Treat Bag- Follow instructions to #4, only attach assembled image to a Peppermint Patty, and attach a plain scallop circle to the back. Surround the Peppermint Patty with some candy corn & cinch the bag.

(7.) Treat Topper using Eat, Drink, Be Scary set.

I love this frankie Favor bag! I don't know who the original designer for this punch art guy is, but I want to thank her (or him)!!!!

We made Frankenstein at our 1st Farmington Valley Stampin' Up! Crafters Club meeting ~ He is fun, easy and everyone loves him!

* 3/4" circle medium punch ($10.95) - cut 2 - cut black or grey

* Uni-ball Signo Gel Pen in white ($3.95) - mark eye balls
* Sponge Daubers ($10.95/12 count) - rub river rock ink on edges (or brown)

Magnetic Bookmarks are all the Rage, don't you know!

In my last post I told you about doing a workshop with a bunch of really fun seniors. This is the magnetic bookmark project they created with great enthusiasm! The initial bookmark was the by far the favorite design! I'm still busy doing last minute prep for my 1st Monthly Club meeting tomorrow/Monday (!!!! so much fun!), I'll come back and update this post with measurements and supplies needed. I will say though, that Business Card magnets work the best for this project!

I wish I had taken a pictures from this event! When I showed the ladies (14 of them) from the West Hartford Fellowship Housing (14 of them!!!) the cards they were going to create. They seemed a tad overwhelmed. I heard one lady tell a friend she was going to just do what she wanted with the supplies. This was my 1st time meeting these ladies, so my heart sank a little thinking they didn't like the design.

I chose to demonstrate the Thoughts & Prayers set (p. 150 of the Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalog). As soon as I pressed the tree image on the card stock (after using 2 different colored SU Stamin' write markers to ink it), and revealed the gorgeous impression, the room was full of astonishment! Lots of ooh-ing and ah-ing too! The ladies were interested and captivated after that!

I had packets for each that contained everything except the background paper. I wanted to give them the choice.

Love at First Sight ~ 2-step Bird Punch

I fell in love with this product, the Bird Builder punch the moment I saw it in the Stampin Up 2010-2011 Idea Book and Catalog! I cased this design from page 19, giving it my own spin. I love the color combination and HAD to recreate it. It was easy enough, except it took me 3 tries to get the branches (2 sets of branches) in the right position behind the bird. I changed the designer paper and used my favorite greeting set, Sincere Salutations. I gave this card to a special Uncle for his birthday (he called to say he loved it). Thank you SU designers! This cased card design will be recreated in the Farmington Valley Stampin' Up! Crafters Club 1st meeting!

Baby Card for my Baby Cousin's Baby

So Many Scallops is one of those now-retired sets that keeps on giving. :) I made this card to go with a gift for my Baby Cousin Jennifer's and her wonderful husband Daniel's new BEAUTIFUL baby girl Lily. I have much to learn in the way of photography though... lol. The picture on the right shows the colors more accurately.
